Bio
Veronica Miles is an Australian contemporary artist known for her modern abstract realism. Her paintings are inspired by the rugged beauty of Tasmania, the patterns in water and clouds, and her journey from South Africa to Australia. Each artwork combines oils, mixed media and natural pigments, often incorporating texture, symbolism and personal stories. Through original paintings, fine art prints and commissions, Veronica’s art invites you to pause, explore and connect with something beyond the surface.
Her work is collected across Australia and internationally.
Situated amongst the idyllic rolling hills of Tasmania, Veronica can be found in her studio creating her truly one-of-a-kind artworks. Veronica has a love for adventure and the natural beauty observed in the world around her.
Originating from South Africa and part of a notably artistic family, Veronica is a born creative. From a very young age, she expressed herself through art and excelled in all creative endeavours, which took on various forms, including oil painting, ceramics, and piano playing. An aptitude for creativity is part of her generational inheritance.
Her life followed an exceptional journey, and by her mid-30s, she took her family on their most exciting adventure yet, immigrating to Australia.
Veronica's love for art was rekindled during her travels through Europe, days before the Covid pandemic hit. Since then, her journey has taken her to many places, and her work is displayed across Australia. She is a lifelong learner and continues to push boundaries in pursuit of her own unique style. She is a graduate of the Milan Art Institute and is currently studying for her Bachelor's of Fine Arts.
Veronica is an explorer at heart, and her unique art process is fluid and unconventional. She incorporates oils, text, and natural earth pigments into her art pieces to give them a unique grounding effect. Some of her most remarkable paintings are created through spontaneous experimental discoveries.
Her art can be described as modern abstract realism. She uses layers of imagery and symbolism that often evoke a deeper meaning; at times, even scratches can be seen in them, representing our scars from life. Veronica prefers to work with a limited palette, contrasting colours, and has a genuine love for the richness of oil paint and the depth it adds to her paintings.
She finds inspiration from the patterns in the water views framing her home studio overlooking the Derwent River. Her creativity comes from cloud formations, sunrises, songs, sand and dreams, and her motto is that Inspiration can be found wherever you dare to look.
Veronica shares her life with her husband, kids, grandkids and her fur baby, Kylie.
Veronica expresses a fearless free spirit into the voyage of life. Her favourite quote to live by is one from Roy Goodman,
"Remember that happiness is a way of travel, not a destination."
